Runaway Cow Shot Dead By Police to ‘Protect the Public’

A runaway cow was shot dead by armed Northumbria Police after it ran onto the busy road of Central Motorway in Newcastle.

Fireman officer was called immediately to the scene after four cows wandered onto the busy road.

Although three cows were safely taken into charge, the fourth cow was visibly acting distressed onto the field next to the road. The officers decided to shoot the cow dead.

The Northumbria Police stated that the cow had to be shot “due to the potential risk to the public and motorists”.

A force spokesman said: “Three cows have been brought to safety however, sadly, one cow was found in a distressed state on a field next to the motorway.

“Due to the potential risk to the public and motorists, the animal has been destroyed by firearms officers at the scene.”

The public clearly did not greet the news with praise on the Northumbria Police’s Facebook page.

One woman wrote: “Cows are the most loving and curious. Could they not have rounded it somewhere safe or tranquilized it?

“Police seem to use their guns for bad rather than good. It didn’t have to end that way.”

Another person couldn’t find any reason to justify the killing, arguing: “How can a cow be a danger??? Stop the traffic and let it pass by, problem solved.”

One user was quick to describe other people’s reaction as hypocrisy, writing: “Don’t know why people get on their high horse because the cow was ‘destroyed’.

“No one says a peep when they’re in the slaughterhouse then the following week you sat with a nice beef dinner or whatever!!”

One man favored the news by saying that the cow was a danger to the public driving on the busy road.

He wrote: “All the people saying why did the cow have to be shot. Say you’re doing 40-60 mph down the road and said cow runs in front of your car.

“Trust me there would be nothing left of the car.”
