Milk Sales Decline by $1.1 Billion Due to Plant Based Alternatives

According to Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), Milk sales have declined by $1.1 billion in 2018. The DFA states that total gross sales fell from $14.7 billion in 2017 to $13.6 billion in 2018. DFA Chief Executive Rick Smith says a consumer shift toward plant-based alternatives is partly to blame.

According to Nielsen Sales Research and statistics, plant-based milk has surged 9% over the last 12 months-comprising a whopping 15%  of total milk sales.

Megan Hambleton, a Beverage analyst with Mintel writes:

The healthy positioning and messaging leveraged by non-dairy brands have made an impression on consumers who purchase both dairy and non-dairy milk.

What are your favorite non-dairy, plant-based milk offerings?
