Del Taco, the popular fast-food restaurant, just launched their vegan taco, becoming the first fast-food Mexican chain to offer vegan options at all 580 of their locations in the US. The tacos will be available at all outlets starting today (25 April).
The fast-food giant has partnered up with Beyond Meat, the producer of plant-based meat substitutes, to offer a meatless taco. “With a growing demand for vegan and vegetarian options among our guests, we saw an opportunity within the space to partner with Beyond Meat to develop a proprietary blend of seasoned, 100 percent plant-based meat,” says John Cappasola, President and Chief Executive Officer of Del Taco.
The new vegan option is made up of Beyond Meat crumbles in a hard and crunchy shell with diced tomatoes, lettuce, and sliced avocado. Customers can also request Beyond Meat as a substitute for protein in the burritos, other tacos and more.
“We are always looking for new and innovative ways to elevate our menu, and are excited to offer this plant-based alternative to even more of our fans – whether they are vegan, vegetarian or just looking to switch things up – without sacrificing quality and taste,” Cappasola added.
